The Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint stock company is planning to transfer the functions of natural gas transit to the public joint stock company Main Gas Pipelines of Ukraine from July 1, 2018. A well-informed source in the government announced this to Ukrainian News Agency, citing a draft financial plan of Naftogaz for 2018 the Cabinet of Ministers has received for consideration. According to the source, Naftogaz of Ukraine will stop being involved in gas transit after July 1, 2018. The national company projects that the natural gas transit in the first six months of 2018 will amount 41.6 billion cubic meters. The national company's revenues from the natural gas transit will amount to UAH 37 billion in the first half of 2018. As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November 2016, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a decision within reforms of Naftogaz of Ukraine to create a new company - the public joint stock company Main Gas Pipelines of Ukraine. On June 14, 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a list of assets and a plan of their transfer from the Ukrtransgaz to the MGPU. According to the plan, the assets must be transferred within 30 days after entry into force of judgments by the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC; Sweden) in lawsuits between Naftogaz and Russian Gazprom contesting gas contracts concluded for the period of 2009-2019.
