Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has called for transformation of the Hostomel airport (Kyiv region) into the base airport for low-cost airlines.

The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Groysman expressed the idea of developing the Hostomel airport, which currently serves as the base for aircrafts of the Antonov state aircraft manufacturing concern and the Antonov Airlines, and transforming it into a base airport for low-cost airlines, including the Ryanair airline (Ireland).

The prime minister proposed preparing the project documentation for development of the Hostomel airport that stipulates the cost of all the necessary works.

During a special meeting on development of air links and the conduct of negotiation with low-cost carriers, it was decided to continue the policy of actively attracting low-cost airlines to Ukraine.

It was also decided to consider temporary provision of the necessary working conditions for low-cost airlines at the Boryspil (Kyiv region) and Kyiv (Zhuliany) airports for a period of one year and convert the Hostomel airport into an airport for low-cost airlines during this period.

In addition, a condition for attracting low-cost airlines should be flights to Ukrainian regional airports.

Groysman also confirmed the need to restore and finalize the negotiations with Ryanair and instructed the Ministry of Infrastructure to inform other airlines about the conditions for entry of carriers into Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Boryspil airport decided to resume negotiations with Ryanair.

The Boryspil airport announced on June 12 that it was ready for any audit of the negotiations with Ryanair regarding the economic feasibility, the position of the airport's management, its legal correctness, and the airport's position on non-discrimination against its other counterparties in conformance with the legislation on protection of economic competition.
