President Petro Poroshenko intends to meet with President of Belarus Alexandr Lukashenko in April.
The Ukrainian embassy in Belarus announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to the statement, Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Ihor Kyzym presented copies of his credentials to Belarus' First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yevdochenko on Thursday.
"Issues of activation of Belarusian-Ukrainian contacts at all levels were discussed during the conversation. In particular, attention was focused on the importance of the preparation for the meeting between President of Ukraine P. Poroshenko and President of the Republic of Belarus A. Lukashenko, which is scheduled for April," the statement said.
Special attention was paid to the issues of deepening bilateral trade and economic cooperation and increasing the trade turnover between the two countries.
Kyzym and Yevdochenko also discussed cooperation between the embassy and the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on consular and legal issues and protection of the rights of Ukrainian citizens on the territory of Belarus.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Poroshenko and Lukashenko agreed to step up bilateral political dialogue earlier in March.
