Rada Fails To Elect Auditor Of NACB Again

On March 21, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine failed again to elect a member of the Commission for Activity Efficiency Audit of the National Anticorruption Bureau (NACB).

With 226 votes required, 200 MPs voted for Nigel Brown, former detective of Scotland Yard.

Before the vote Verkhovna Rada Chairperson Andriy Parubiy put two candidacies for a rating vote on two candidates suggested by the Parliamentary Committee on Corruption Prevention and Counteraction - Nigel Brown and Inspector General (OIG) in the U.S. Department of Justice Robert Storch.

202 MPs voted for Nigel Brown and 178 MPs voted for Robert Storch.

Speaker Parubiy instructed the Parliamentary Committee on Corruption Prevention and Counteraction to tackle the issue.

The law on National Anticorruption Bureau envisages annual independent audits of work of the NACB. The audit commission shall comprise of three members and annually appointed by the President, the Verkhovna Rada, and the Cabinet of Ministers.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on February 23, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine failed to elect a member of the Commission for Activity Efficiency Audit of the National Anticorruption Bureau.

The Parliamentary Committee on Corruption Prevention and Counteraction has recommended that the Ukrainian Parliament elect Inspector General (OIG) in the U.S. Department of Justice Robert P. Storch as a commission member.

However, the factions of Petro Poroshenko Bloc and People's Front offered another candidacy - Nigel Brown.
