President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is ready to submit as urgent to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on the State Investigation Service.

President Poroshenko announced this at a sitting of the Regional Development Council, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Attempts to arrive at a compromise have failed. I am sure it is high time to make a decision and end the question. My direct political will is that the tax police should be disbanded. We have agreed that before the sitting of the National Reform Council a draft law will be elaborated with active participation of the government, MPs, experts and public. I am ready to submit it as an urgent one," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada in late 2016 made a clerical mistake which in fact outlawed the tax police from January 1, 2017 on.

Therefore, the Finance Ministry prepared the bill on the Financial Police.

In response to that, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax and Customs Policies initiated removal of the technical uncertainty of the work of the tax police, having registered bill No. 0940.

However, the Verkhovna Rada rejected the draft law on February 23, 2017.

Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk said he would submit to the Cabinet of Ministers a draft law on Financial Investigation Service as soon as possible. As at March 20, 2017, the draft law is not submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers.
