The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is intending to oblige television channels to broadcast at least 75% of content in the Ukrainian language.
With 226 votes required, 244 MPs voted for draft law No.5313 at first reading, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The draft law envisages that local television companies will be obliged to broadcast at least 50% of content in the Ukrainian language.
If adopted, the law will take effect in a month from the date of official publication.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says the share of content in the Ukrainian language on television is very low.
