ESA Launches Vega Carrier Rocket Powered By YUZHMASH Engine To Orbit Sentinel-2В Satellite

On March 7, 2017, the European Space Agency (ESA) has launched Vega carrier rocket powered by the RD-843 engine produced by the Production Association Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant named after A.M. Makarov (YUZHMASH, Dnipro) to orbit Sentinel-2B satellite.

YUZHMASH announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"March 7, 2017, at 3.49 a.m. (Kyiv time), Kourou spaceport, French Guiana. Successfully launched European "Vega" light-class launcher," reads the statement.

According to the statement, the cruise engine of the forth stage RD-843 has been designed by the Yuzhnoye State Design Office (Yuzhnoye SDO; Dnipro) and manufactured by the Production Association Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant.

It was the ninth launch under the Vega Program and the first in 2017.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 17, 2016, the European Space Agency has launched a Vega carrier rocket powered by the engine produced by the Production Association Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant named after A.M. Makarov (YUZHMASH) to orbit a PeruSAT-1 satellite (Peru) and SkySat-4, 5, 6, 7 spacecrafts by American Terra Bella, which belongs to Google corporation.
