RF Embassy To Canada: Prolongation Of Canadian Army's Training Mission In Ukraine Contrary To 'Minsk Accords'

RF Embassy To Canada: Prolongation Of Canadian Army's Training Mission In Ukraine Contrary To 'Minsk Accords'

Russia's Embassy to Canada says that the prolongation of the work of the training mission UNIFIER of its Armed Forces in Ukraine till end-March 2019 is contrary to the agreements reached in Minsk, Belarus on February 12, 2015.

The RF Embassy has posted its comment on this decision on Twitter, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Canadian Government's decision to extend the military mission in Ukraine is counterproductive and does not facilitate intra-Ukrainian political process, including direct dialogue between Kiev and Donbas, as prescribed by the Minsk accords," it reads.

The Embassy also notes that the Ukrainian authorities thus 'pursue military ventures'.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, Canada on March 6 decided to prolong the work of the training mission UNIFIER of its Armed Forces in Ukraine till end-March 2019.

In July 2016, Ukraine asked Canada to prolong the terms of stay of its military instructors after March 2017.

In January 2016, 200 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Canada arrived in Ukraine to train Ukrainian troops.
