Ukraine Urges ICJ To Take Provisional Measures Against Russia Before Consideration Of Case In Merits

Ukrainian asks the International Court of Justice to introduce provisional measures against the Russian Federation before the consideration of the case in merits.

Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal, the head of Ukraine's delegation at the case, said this during hre speech at the International Court of Justice, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Deputy Foreign Minister Zerkal informed the International Court of Justice about the increasing number of shelling by militants in eastern Ukraine. She says the fact is the evidence that Russia supplies weapons and ammunition to the militants.

She also informed the International Court of Justice about regular violations of human rights in Crimea and reprisals against Crimean Tatars on the Ukrainian peninsular annexed by Russia.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on Monday, March 6, 2017, the International Court of Justice began to consider Ukraine's claim against Russia.

On January 16, 2017, Ukraine filed a lawsuit in the ICJ to hold the Russian Federation accountable for its support for terrorism in the east of Ukraine and acts of discrimination of ethnic Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars in Crimea.
