Rail Blockade Headquarters: National Guard Preparing For Violent Dispersal Of Activists On Line Of Contact In Donbas

The headquarters for the blockade of rail traffic along the line of contact in the Donbas believes that the National Guard is preparing an operation aimed at forcibly dispersing the blockade activists.

The blockade headquarters' representative Anatolii Vinohrodskyi announced this during a press conference at the press center of the Ukrainian News information agency.

"We expect the use of force by the National Guard," he said.

He added that information available to the blockade headquarters indicated that a National Guard unit has begun moving in the direction of the blockade's redoubts.

According to the blockade headquarters, three railway lines are currently under blockade. According to Vinohrodskyi, last railway line in operation in the Luhansk region (the Schastia-Valuiky line) will be blocked soon.

The blockade activists also plan to block all the roads along the line of contact soon.

Vinohrodskyi reiterated that the blockade poses no threat to the Ukrainian steel industry.

In addition, the blockade headquarters believes that the "nationalization" of Ukrainian enterprises by militants in the non-government-controlled territories in the Donbas is unconnected with the blockade.

"There can be no 'nationalization.' It is an ordinary 'grab' because the enterprises in question have long belonged to Russian oligarchs," Vinohrodskyi said.

According to him, the blockade headquarters is currently unable to comment on the Cabinet of Ministers decision to limit the list of goods that can be transported across the line of contact because the list has not yet been made public.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the National Bank of Ukraine believes that the blocking of railways in the Donbas will slow Ukraine's GDP growth by 1.3 percentage points to 1.5% in 2017.
