Poroshenko Believes Russian Troops In Transnistria Region Of Moldova Can Be Used For Offensive On Ukraine

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says Russia can use Russian troops in the Transnistria region of Moldova uncontrolled by Chisinau for offensive on Ukraine.

Poroshenko said this at a meeting with leaders of the Ukrainian armed forces, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The Russian military contingent in the Transnistria region of Moldova uncontrolled by Chisinau is also a menace for the Ukrainian borders. It can be used for offensive on our territory anytime. And even though there are not too much of them there, they can create additional problems for us as a reinforcement to over 20 thousand warriors in the annexed Crimea," he said.

Poroshenko also notes the deployment of up to 50,000 Russian troops in close proximity to Ukraine's borders.

According to him, Russia has formed two army corps consisting of six mechanized brigades, one infantry brigade, three regiments, two artillery brigades and other units on the occupied territories of Donbas.

"Regular units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation are additionally involved in these troops. About 3.5 thousand people already," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Moldova counts on Ukraine's support in the resolution of the Transnistria conflict.

Ukraine supports Moldova in its intention to provide withdrawal of the Russian troops from Transnistria.

Ukraine is ready to take efforts to restore the territorial integrity of Moldova.
