Poroshenko Confident Lukashenko Won't Allow Using Belarus For Unfriendly Actions Against Ukraine

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is confident that President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus will not allow using the territory of his country for unfriendly actions against Ukraine.

Poroshenko said this at a meeting with leaders of the Ukrainian armed forces, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I sure that President Lukashenko will not allow, and he has said this several times, using the territory of Belarus for unfriendly actions towards us," Poroshenko said.

He thanked President Lukashenko for the decision not to recognize documents issued by the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" and "Luhansk People's Republic."

"From my own experience I would advise Belarusians and the Baltic States to be ready for any surprises from Moscow," Poroshenko said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in December 2016, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in his letter of congratulation, addressed to President Petro Poroshenko, on occasion of the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Belarus and Ukraine, said he believed that the bilateral cooperation of Belarus and Ukraine rests upon openness, trust and equality of rights.

President Lukashenko is convinced that the Ukrainian-Belarusian ties will be strengthening.

President Poroshenko stands for tougher sanctions against Russia for its recognizing documents of the so-called "people's republics" of Donbas.
