The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has invited German Ambassador to Ukraine Ernst Reichel following his statements that elections in Luhansk and Donetsk regions can be held in presence of Russian troops.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced this to Ukrainian News Agency.

"The German Ambassador has been invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for explanations following his statements published in the interview by RBK-Ukraine," the press service said.

Ambassador Reichel said in the interview that "it is not compulsory that the elections in Donbas will be only when there are no Russian troops or when the Ukrainian flag is over each of city administrations."

The Ambassador recalled the parliamentary elections in the GDR in 1990 before the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Germany.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, some 30 members of the Verkhovna Rada want the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to call German Ambassador Reichel in connection with his statements that elections in Luhansk and Donetsk regions can be held in presence of Russian troops.
