Ukraine To Chair UN Security Council In February 2017

Ukraine has assumed the presidency of the United Nations Security Council.

Ukraine will chair the UN Security Council in February 2017.

At a closed session of the United Nations Security Council, Ukraine presented a draft statement by the Council members concerning the escalation of the situation in Avdiivka, Donetsk Region.

February 2, Ukraine is chairing an open session on the situation in Donbas.

Ukraine is one of ten non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

During Ukraine's presidency the UN Security Council will consider a question of protection of facilities of critical infrastructure on February 13 and the question of resolution of conflicts in Europe on February 21.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine believes that Ukraine's presidency in the UN Security Council will consolidate faith in Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on 1 January 2016, Ukraine became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2016-2017.
