Germany Rules Out Softer Sanctions Against Russia Before Implementation Of Minsk Agreements

Germany rules out softer sanctions against Russia before Russia fulfills the Minsk agreements.

The press service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine announced this in a statement following a meeting of National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov and German Ambassador Ernst Reichel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

NSDC Secretary Turchynov and Ambassador Reichel discussed the current situation in Ukraine and the geopolitical situation following the aggressive actions of Russia.

Turchynov says the development of the defensive capacities is the priority for Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Council of the European Union has extended the sanctions against Russia till 31 July 2017.

Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin thinks that sanctions from Russia can be lifted if it fulfills the agreements reached in Minsk, Belarus on February 12, 2015.

Klimkin emphasized that was not related to the sanctions imposed against Russia for the annexation of Crimea.
