The Kyiv city prosecutor's office has closed a case against former Deputy Prosecutor General Vitalii Kasko.

The press service of the Kyiv city prosecutor's office announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal case was carried out by the investigation section of the Pechersk district police department of the Kyiv city office of the National Police.

The statement reads that the Kyiv city prosecutor's office has not found enough evidence of criminal offences by Vitalii Kasko.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on 23 May 2016, the Appeal Court of Kyiv removed the attachment from former Deputy Prosecutor General Vitalii Kasko's flat.

In March 2016, a court attached Kasko's flat he had received as official housing in 2010. The attachment was part of the criminal proceeding upon the application of then Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.

The investigators have a theory that Kasko committed fraud by submitting false information about lack of permanent housing in Kyiv. Thanks to overstating the actual number of his family members he illegally took possession of an apartment in the capital in 2010-2014.

In 2003, Kasko received an official one-room apartment in the Pechersk district of Kyiv, which was later privatized by his mother, who was then already living in a three-room apartment in Kyiv.

In 2010, Kasko again applied to the Prosecutor-General's Office (PGO) for an official apartment, claiming that he was living with his grandfather, mother and sister.

Therefore, Kasko's family was provided with a three-room apartment in the same district of Pechersk in Druzhby Narodiv Boulevard.
