Ukraine had 11.949 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the underground gas storage facilities on January 1, 2017 (13.878 billion cubic meters on January 1, 2016).

Ukrainian News learned this from data provided by Ukrtransgaz, the operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

Since the start of the heating season (October 12, 2016) Ukraine has taken 2.782 billion cubic meters from the underground gas storage facilities.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint stock company noted that the gas kept in the underground gas storage facilities was enough for the whole heating season of 2016-2017.

Naftogaz of Ukraine plans that the underground gas storage facilities will have 7-8 million cubic meters of gas at the end of the heating season while 5 billion cubic meters is technically admissible.

During the 2015-2016 heating season Ukrtransgaz began to take natural gas from underground gas storage facilities on October 30, 2015. The gas reserves then made 17.064 billion cubic meters. The underground gas storage facilities had 8.437 billion cubic meters on April 6, 2016.
