Cabinet Approves Procedure For Taking Special Measures Related To Car Imports From EU

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the procedure for taking special measures in relation to importation of passenger cars into Ukraine from the European Union.

The relevant Cabinet of Ministers resolution was adopted at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The resolution was adopted without a debate and the text of the resolution has not been published.

According to the draft of this resolution, the procedure defines the mechanism for taking special measures in relation to importation into Ukraine of passenger cars originating from the European Union, which are classified under the UKT VED 8703 code.

According to the draft of this procedure, special measures are to be taken after a special investigation, if the reduction or abolition of the import duty cars results in importation of cars into Ukraine in volumes that inflict significant harm on the national industry that produces a similar product, and if the total volume of import of cars originating from the European Union in the course of a year reaches the maximum volume stipulated in the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

Decisions to impose special duties and decisions to launch or end a special investigation into importation of cars are made by the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has proposed that the Cabinet of Ministers approve a procedure for taking special measures in relation to importation of passenger cars into Ukraine from the European Union.
