Court To Open Proceedings In Case Against Ex-MP Tsariov (Party Of Regions) January 31, 2017

The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv on January 31, 2017 will open proceedings in the case against former Member of Parliament Oleh Tsariov (Party of Regions).

Ukrainian News Agency learned this from the summons to court published by the official publication of central bodies of executive power Uriadovyi Kurier.

Tsariov is charged under Section 2 of Article 110 and Section 3 of Article 109 (violation of the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine, actions aimed at forceful change and overturn of the constitutional status) of the Penal Code of Ukraine.

A preparatory sitting is scheduled for 09:00.

In the event of Tsariov's failure to appear the tribunal will be examining the case against him through special (in-absentia) proceedings.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Prosecutor-General's Office (PGO) in March conveyed to court the in-absentia bill of indictment of Tsariov but the court returned it to the PGO for elaboration.

Tsariov is accused of participation in a gathering of pro-Russia citizens while being a member of the Verkhovna Rada and a presidential candidate, and encouraging them to action meant to a violent change and overturn of the constitutional system.

The ex-MP also spread through mass media the calls to recognize the terrorist organizations "Luhansk People's Republic" (LPR) and "Donetsk People's Republic" (DPR).

He is now wanted by law-enforcers.
