The European Parliament has declared its readiness to complete the procedures necessary to grant Ukrainian citizens the right to visa-free travel to the European Union.

The press service of President Petro Poroshenko announced this in a statement, citing Poroshenko's conversation with the European Parliament's President Martin Schulz, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Martin Schulz confirmed the readiness of the European Parliament to complete all the relevant internal procedures in order to fulfill the European Union's obligation to grant Ukrainian citizens the right to visa-free travel to the European Union," the statement said.

Poroshenko thanked the president of the European Parliament for his clear position in support of Ukraine during the European Council meeting that took place in Brussels (Belgium) on December 15.

He was referring to the unblocking of the process of ratification of the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, the granting of the right to visa-free travel to the European Union to Ukrainian citizens, and the extension of the sanctions against Russia.

Schulz has also underlined the importance of early completion of the ratification of the association agreement and expressed readiness to support the process.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Schulz has called on the EU Council not to delay the decision to grant Ukrainian citizens the right to visa-free travel to the European Union.
