Avakov Not To Step Down After 5 Deaths In Police Shootout In Kniazhychi

Internal Affairs Minister Arsen Avakov will not step down after five policemen' deaths in a shootout in Kniazhychi, Kyiv Region.

He was speaking to journalists, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The minister says that he will be drawing conclusions and moving ahead.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs will make several personnel and methodological conclusions from this situation. In particular, work guidance notes for the police guard service will be changed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, five policemen were shot to death when firing at each other in Kniazhychi December 4.

Two police guard service staff, two Kyiv police operatives and a KORD special unit fighter were killed.

The Prosecutor-General's Office (PGO) suspects the officers in charge of the special operation in Kniazhychi, the failure hereof resulted in deaths of five police officers, of neglect of duty.
