Ukraine, Poland Sign Agreement To Cooperate In Defense Sector

Ukraine and Poland have signed an intergovernmental agreement to cooperate in the defense sector.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Andrii Deschytsia wrote this on Twitter, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Defense ministers of Ukraine and Poland have signed an agreement on cooperation in the defense sector between Ukraine and Poland," he wrote.

The agreement was signed during President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko's official visit in Poland on Friday.

The presidential press service says in its statement that the General Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Poland on Cooperation in Defense Sphere has been elaborated under the Law of Ukraine on International Treaties of Ukraine pursuant to the initiative of the Polish side.

The statement reads that the purpose of the document is to create legal framework for the development of cooperation between the parties in defense sphere on the principles of reciprocity.

The Agreement will have positive influence on defense capacity of the state, develop military-industrial complex and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as provide the opportunity of launching new topical forms of cooperation.

The Agreement provides legal basis for wider Ukraine - Poland cooperation in the defense sector, including in such areas as: military communication and information systems; research works for the needs of the armed forces; the defense policies and planning; logistic provision of the armed forces; engineering and technical works; military infrastructure; development, modernization, production and supplies of defensive equipment; cooperation in the defense industry; operations of special troops.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine and Poland will hold a session of the intergovernmental trade and economic cooperation commission in the spring of 2017.
