Former Commander Of Interior Troops Shuliak Denies Existence Of Order To Use Special Means Against Activists Of Euromaidan On December 1, 2013

Stanislav Shuliak, former commander of the Interior Troops of Ukraine, denies existence of an order to use special means against activists of the Euromaidan on Independence Square in Kyiv on 1 December 2013.

The Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv is interrogating Stanislav Shuliak via a video link from Russia, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I did not give this order, because it was not necessary," he said.

He said actions of soldiers of the Interior Troops in such situations were regulated by the law.

He accused activists of the Euromaidan of aggressive actions and causing injuries to 100 soldiers of law enforcement agencies on 1 December 2013.

Stanislav Shuliak said the Interior Troops were involved in the center of Kyiv only from 1 December 2013.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv has started interrogation of Stanislav Shuliak, former commander of the Interior Troops of Ukraine, via a video link from Russia in a case against five former officers of the Berkut riot police accused of killing 48 activists of the Euromaidan in Kyiv in February 2014.
