The European Parliament intends to consider a question of the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens on 18 January 2017. This is said in a statement posted on the website of the European Parliament, Ukrainian News Agency reports. The statement reads that the European Parliament will consider the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens at a first reading. The Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) has approved commencement of negotiations between the EU Council and the European Parliament on liberalization of the EU's visa regime for Ukrainian citizens. At the same time, the EU Council takes the view that visa liberalization for Ukraine should enter into force at the same time as the new suspension mechanism enters into force. As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Parliament is planning to consider a mechanism of suspension of visa-free regime for third countries on 18 January 2017. The question of the mechanism of suspension of visa-free regime for third countries is likely to be considered at a first reading during the plenary session meeting of 18 January 2017.
