The same order bestowed the medal For Labour and Valour on eight persons for considerable personal contribution to the overcoming of the aftereffects of the Chornobyl disaster, exemplary discharge of their duties, and high professionalism shown during the construction of the Chornobyl NPP confinement.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has said that the structure, covering the Chornobyl NPP Unit 4 destroyed in 1986, has been slid into position.

The New Safe Confinement is 108 metres high and 162 metres long, and has a span of 257 metres and a lifetime of a minimum of 100 years. The arch-shaped structure weighs some 36,000 tonnes. Its total cost is EUR 1.5 billion.

The explosion at the Chornobyl NPP Unit 4 on April 26, 1986 is the worst man-caused disaster in the world history.

A concrete sarcophagus known as the Shelter facility was built over the damaged reactor in 1986 to isolate it.
