National Police Suspend 13 Ex-Berkut Staff Suspected Of Crimes Against EuroMaidan Activists

The National Police have suspended 13 policemen, former staff of the special unit Berkut suspected of crimes against EuroMaidan activists.

Ukrainian News Agency learned this from a statement made by the National Police press service.

The National Police has sent a letter to the Prosecutor-General’s Office (PGO) with a request to provide information about the procedural status of certain policemen, former Berkut staff appearing in the EuroMaidan cases.

The PGO provided information about 13 such persons who were then serving at the police.

A measure of restraint was ordered for six policemen, custody or house arrest, and no measure of restraint was ordered for four ex-Berkut men.

Leadership of the National Police suspended all 13 and are awaiting court decision.

After the decision, the attestation and police commission will decide their future at the police.

Former commander of the Berkut company Yevhen Antonov, who was identified as an active participant in the dispersal of students in Maidan Nezalezhnosti in the early hours of November 30, 2013, has not been working at law-enforcement agencies since long ago.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, former President Viktor Yanukovych said on November 28 that he thinks that Berkut special company staff went beyond authority when dispersing the EuroMaidan on November 30, 2013.
