Museums’ libraries enriched due to the joint program of Rodovid Press and Gennady Romanenko
Rodovid publishing house and philanthropist Gennady Romanenko introduced their joint program of support to Ukrainian museums in the National Art Museum in Kyiv, The Ukrainian Newspaper reports.
By virtue of this program five national museums will acquire sets of books on Ukrainian culture. The National Museum of Ukraine, the National Museum of Decorative Folk Art, Central State Archive of Literature and Arts, Sumy and Zaporizhya Art Museums are among the beneficiary institutions.
Donated editions include a book on the Kyiv years of Kazymyr Malevych, the art calendar Ukrainian Art: From the Bronze Age to the Present Day (which was introduced during the event), and Karabelivka: The Land of Our Ancestors ― The Land of Our Descendants.
The last book is dedicated to a village in Vinnytsia region and represents a microhistory approach. Its authors studied lives of individual citizens and families in Karabelivka, their social and cultural practices that have developed over the last few centuries.
"This book ends with a list of Karabelivka’s residents. As of January 1, 2015, 567 people lived there, and I had the feeling that I knew the histories of every one of them”, says the book’s editor Valentyna Klymenko.
Gennady Romanenko, who stood behind the publication on Karabelivka and was its main author, addressed the event audience and called for further support of Ukrainian cultural institutions. He called it an extremely important case and urged individuals and organizations to join.
"The days of trials which Ukraine is now suffering do not bring solely the difficulties. It can also be a source of Ukrainian culture’s renewal, its transformation. Which is, in fact, a natural way of development. But cultural institutions, museums included, need our support more than ever. And it’s not only financial support, but organizational or creative one, as well”, says Gennady Romanenko.
A number of book collections for Ukrainian museums were donated to their representatives during the event, other sets will be delivered by mail.
