Andrii Niebytov, Deputy Head of the National Police, stated that the “Gentlemen” special operation was carried out by anti-drug units in collaboration with other National Police agencies. The operation took place in 23 regions.
Niebytov shared this information with the Ukrainian News agency and on his Facebook page.
In just a few days, in 23 regions and in Kyiv, police:
• brought 74 individuals involved in the illegal drug trade to justice;
• destroyed nearly 30,000 drug-containing plants;
• shut down 12 drug labs, including grow box and hydroponic facilities;
• seized more than 170 kilograms of cannabis.
In total, drug traffickers lost over UAH 60 million in illegal profits.
“We found drug crops that they had tried to hide meticulously: in forest belts, at an apiary, among farmland, in hard-to-reach areas, and in regions under constant, devastating shelling,” Niebytov said.
He noted that the fight against drug crime is a daily, systematic effort in which the police consistently dismantle the entire criminal chain: from illegal cultivation to the organizers, producers, suppliers, and dealers.
Every year, the police uproot hectares of illegally grown cannabis and opium poppies. This prevents not only drug sales but also many serious crimes.
At the same time, the deputy head of the National Police is a staunch supporter of the civilized, legal use of medical cannabis by those for whom it helps them live and cope with illness.
“However, we will fight drug cartels relentlessly. It is wrong to profit from people struggling with addiction. So all the special operations are still ahead of us. To be continued…,” Niebytov added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the National Police recently detained the criminal boss “Moskal” and associates of a former member of parliament who were supplying cocaine to Europe. Law enforcement officers conducted 24 searches in Ivano-Frankivsk Region and seized over 165 kg of amphetamine, cannabis, 99 “ecstasy” tablets, weapons, and approximately UAH 1.5 million in cash.
