NATO leaders support Ukraine’s intensification of long-range strikes on russian territory, viewing them as an important means of pressuring moscow to return to the negotiating table. Finnish President Alexander Stubb made this statement in an interview with the Financial Times, explaining the logic behind the Alliance’s actions.

“I think all NATO leaders understand why Ukraine is doing this. Everyone believes we need to continue to increase the pressure.”

According to the Finnish leader, successful missile and drone attacks on military targets deep inside Russia have significantly changed the strategic thinking of Western partners and international mediators.

“We are in a fairly good position when it comes to Ukraine, because everyone, including our American friends, sees that Ukraine is currently on top on the battlefield. This has also changed the strategic thinking of those who are trying to mediate a peace agreement,” Stubb noted.

He expressed his conviction that Kyiv currently holds its strongest position since the start of the full-scale invasion, which is causing panic in the kremlin.

“Ukraine is now in a better military, political, and financial position than at any time during this war. That is precisely why we are now seeing a lot of alarming activity in Russia,” he said.

Commenting on the potential risks of nuclear escalation by moscow, Alexander Stubb acknowledged that “escalation is always possible, and we are considering various scenarios.” At the same time, he added that he had discussed this issue with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. According to the Finnish president, the Chinese side expressed a clear stance against the use of nuclear weapons, accompanied by “many alarming signals” directed at russia regarding the likelihood of such a scenario.
