US State Department states that Ukraine has seized initiative and is winning war at this stage

Main points
  • Jeremy P. Lewin noted that Ukraine is winning the war at this point.
  • The Ukrainian Armed Forces have seized the initiative and are on the offensive.
  • Ukraine’s long-range strikes against russian infrastructure have been a turning point.

The US State Department assesses Ukraine’s current position in its struggle against russia as a winning one and notes a dramatic shift in the dynamics on the battlefield. Jeremy P. Lewin, US Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, Humanitarian Affairs, and Religious Freedom, has stated this during a speech at the “Ukrainian Lunch” in Gdańsk, according to the European Pravda.

“As of now, we are in a situation where Ukraine is winning the war at this moment,” the State Department representative said.

Lewin highlighted the shift in roles that has taken place on the battlefield. According to him, while Ukrainian defenders previously looked forward to the winter as an opportunity to rest due to a decrease in the intensity of russian assaults, the opposite is now true. Currently, it is the Ukrainian Armed Forces that have seized the initiative and are on the offensive, while russian troops are pinned down in a defensive position and are hoping for a winter lull.

The American diplomat cited Ukraine’s long-range strikes on russian infrastructure within russian territory as a key factor in the turning point, noting that these strikes have shifted the dynamics even during the winter and allowed for continued pressure on the battlefield.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russia, the aggressor nation, has begun actively spreading the narrative that the situation on the front lines is favorable for it, against the backdrop of Ukraine’s successful strikes on targets deep within russian territory.
