Keir Starmer has announced his resignation as prime minister and leader of the Labour Party. He has already informed the king of his decision and initiated the process of selecting a new party leader.
Sky News reports this.
Starmer has asked the party’s National Executive Committee to organize an internal election for a new leader. The nomination period is set to begin on July 9 and end on July 16, before the start of the summer parliamentary recess.
If an election is held, the new leader of the Labour Party must be elected before Parliament reconvenes in September.
Keir Starmer took office as prime minister on July 5, 2024.
As a reminder, insiders had previously stated that a change in the UK’s prime minister was in the works.
