A total of 35 departments in France have issued the highest level of weather alert due to an abnormal heat wave, prompting a ban on alcohol consumption at the Fête de la Musique festival. Temperatures across the country could reach 41°C.

The BBC reports this.

The decision to restrict alcohol applies to events taking place in areas under a red alert. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, government agencies have been instructed not to serve alcohol during organized events.

What weather is expected in the coming days?

On Sunday, temperatures in France are forecast to reach 39–40°C across a wide geographical area—from the southwest through the Paris region to Burgundy. In some areas, temperatures are expected to rise to 41°C. The peak of the heat is forecast for Monday.

The heat wave has already caused disruptions to infrastructure: dozens of trains have been canceled, and some schools have been temporarily closed. According to estimates by the French meteorological service Météo-France, the heatwave has affected approximately three-quarters of the population, and its duration remains uncertain.
