An explosion that occurred around 4:00 a.m. on June 5 in the Obolon District of Kyiv damaged a Nova Poshta sorting terminal. One employee was killed and two others were injured in the incident, according to the company’s press service.
The fire that broke out on the premises has already been extinguished, but operations at the depot have been suspended for now.
"Unfortunately, our employee Ivan Zharii, 58, died as a result of the incident. Two other employees—Vadym Protsenko (41) and Denys Karachov (37)—were injured and are under medical supervision," the official statement reads.
The company noted that it is arranging the funeral and providing necessary support to the families of the victims.
Specialized services and law enforcement are working at the scene to determine the circumstances and causes of the explosion. Until the official investigation is complete, Nova Poshta is refraining from commenting on possible theories regarding the incident.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, rescue workers showed the aftermath of the strike on the Yahotynske plant in the Kyiv Region.
Earlier, the head of the Regional Military Administration reported that russian drones had attacked a food processing plant.
