Reports that National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi has resigned are untrue.
The National Police has informed the Ukrainian News agency about this.
"This information is not true; Vyhivskyi has not submitted a resignation letter, remains in his position, and is performing his duties," said National Police spokesperson Yuliia Hirdvilis.
Reports of the resignation of the head of the National Police of Ukraine appeared on May 20 in various media outlets. However, this information had not been officially confirmed. In particular, the reasons why Ivan Vyhivskyi decided to submit his resignation were not disclosed.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Yevhen Zhukov, the former head of the Patrol Police Department who resigned over the actions of patrol officers during the April 18 terrorist attack in Kyiv, has been appointed to a new position. He was appointed advisor to National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi. On April 18, after noon, bloody events unfolded in the Holosiivskyi District of Kyiv. Initially, local residents began reporting on Telegram channels about the sounds of gunfire they were hearing in the courtyards of their homes. Later, videos filmed on cellphones emerged, showing a man who was simply moving quickly down the street and shooting at practically everyone he encountered. Six people were killed. Later, a video emerged showing that two patrol officers who had arrived at the scene in response to a call fled as soon as they heard the gunshots.
