President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed Ukrainian negotiators to clarify with the US the details of russia’s proposal for a ceasefire on May 9. Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

"I have instructed our representatives to contact the team of the President of the United States and clarify the details of the Russian proposal for a short-term ceasefire. Ukraine seeks peace and is conducting the necessary diplomatic efforts to bring this war to a real end. We will find out exactly what this entails: a few hours of security for the parade in Moscow or something more," he said.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine’s proposal is to establish a long-term ceasefire, guarantee reliable security for people, and ensure lasting peace.

"Ukraine is ready to work toward this in any dignified and effective format," he emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with russian dictator vladimir putin on April 29 and stated that an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is close. He also said he had proposed a “short-term ceasefire” to the kremlin leader.

In turn, russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated that putin had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, during which he expressed his readiness to declare a “ceasefire” on May 9.
