Ukraine, US and russia agree to exchange 314 prisoners in Abu Dhabi

At the talks in Abu Dhabi, the delegations of Ukraine, russia and the United States reached an agreement on the exchange of 314 prisoners.

US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff has announced this.

According to him, this is the first prisoner exchange in the last five months.

Witkoff emphasized that the result was made possible by "detailed and productive peace talks."

He added that despite the agreement, work is still ongoing, and such steps demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing diplomatic efforts to help end the war in Ukraine.

According to the Special Envoy, the discussions will continue and further progress is expected in the coming weeks

The day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that an exchange of prisoners of war could take place between Ukraine and the aggressor country russia in the near future.

The last exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and russia took place in early October 2025. Back then, 185 Ukrainian defenders were returned from russian captivity.
