President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he is always ready to hold elections. His words in response to US President Donald Trump were quoted by La Repubblica on Tuesday, December 9.
Zelenskyy emphasized that he would not avoid holding elections in Ukraine. This is how the President of Ukraine commented on Trump's words that he is allegedly using the war to avoid announcing elections in the country.
"I'm always ready for elections: this is how Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responds to the words of US President Donald Trump, who in an interview with Politico accuses him of "using the war to avoid announcing elections" and calls for elections in Ukraine," the article says.
Zelenskyy said at a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni that he trusted her and hoped for her help. Meloni emphasized the importance of unity of views between European partners and the United States to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
"It is now important to increase the level of rapprochement on issues that concern the vital interests of Ukraine and its European partners, such as defining strong security guarantees and identifying joint measures to support Ukraine and its reconstruction," Meloni said.
In addition, Italy will send generators to Ukraine in the coming weeks to provide energy support to the country.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on December 8, US President Donald Trump said that he was disappointed by the fact that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had not yet "read" the peace plan proposed by the United States to resolve the conflict.
On December 9, Trump said that Ukraine should hold elections, as he believes they have not been held for a long time.
