For the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has handed over a russian military prisoner of war to a foreign state for criminal prosecution. He is suspected of torture and inhuman treatment, in particular against a Lithuanian citizen.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko and National Police reported this.

It is about a senior sailor of the russian military police, who was captured by Ukrainian defenders in the Zaporizhzhia direction near Robotyne. According to the investigation, he took part in the abduction and ill-treatment of civilians and prisoners of war on the territory of the local airfield: he beat, tortured with electricity, strangled, kept people in metal safes and applied psychological pressure.

Among the victims is a Lithuanian citizen who was in Melitopol for private reasons and was not involved in the hostilities.

On October 30, a court in Vilnius, at the request of the Lithuanian prosecutor's office, imposed a three-month pre-trial restraint on the russian military officer. He is suspected of war crimes, torture, illegal detention and violation of the Geneva Conventions. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment.

Ruslan Kravchenko called the transfer of the prisoner "a historic and important precedent for international justice" and emphasized that it is a signal to all those involved in crimes against Ukrainians.

"This is not just a legal action. This is a clear signal to every war criminal: you will not be able to hide from responsibility in any country of the free world. Justice will be served," Kravchenko said.

We would like to remind you that in the Toretsk sector, fighters of the 82nd Separate Air Assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took a Chinese citizen prisoner - Wang Wu, born in 2000, a native of Anhui province. He served in the 102nd Regiment of the 150th Division of the russian Armed Forces under the call sign "Sabre."
