One of the frontrunners in the competition for the position of Director of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BES), NABU officer Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi, may have close ties to a citizen of the aggressor state — the Russian Federation — namely, his father. According to published investigative reports cited by RBC-Ukraine, Tsyvinskyi’s father holds a valid passport of the Russian Federation.
During a previous selection process for the position of NABU Director in 2023, Tsyvinskyi failed to provide a clear answer regarding his father’s citizenship. Instead, he claimed to have “spoken with relatives” and was told that his father was allegedly a citizen of Ukraine.
There is no publicly available evidence that any official verification of this matter has been conducted by Ukrainian law enforcement or counterintelligence authorities. Given that Tsyvinskyi continued to maintain contact with his father at the time of Russia’s full-scale invasion, this raises serious national security concerns.
Security experts emphasize that appointing an individual with such family ties to a strategic role responsible for the country’s financial security is unacceptable during wartime.
