The EU Is Already Beginning to Impose Sanctions Against Spreaders of Russian Disinformation, — Political Technologist Viktor Berezenko

Political consultant and author of the book "Workshop of Lies", Viktor Berezenko, expressed concern about the insufficient efforts aimed at countering Russian disinformation. During a broadcast on the "Espreso" TV channel, he emphasized that among nearly 5,000 books presented at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, there were practically no sources that thoroughly addressed this issue.

"At the Frankfurt Book Fair, there were representatives from about 100 countries and nearly five thousand books. We tried to find books focused on countering Russian disinformation, but the situation was not very encouraging. I am glad we were able to present "Workshop of Lies" at an international level. It is currently being translated into English, Spanish, Czech, and other languages," — Berezenko said.

He noted that "Workshop of Lies" is a systematic source of facts about Russian disinformation and its mechanisms, with 80% of the book’s audience being western readers. Currently, the EU has already beginning to impose sanctions against spreaders of Russian disinformation. On December 16, for example, a decision was made in Brussels to impose sanctions on Russians—both legal entities and individuals—who participate in spreading Kremlin propaganda.

"Disinformation affects the opinions of people who then go to vote. In the case of Germany, we see how Putin’s allies are starting to come to power. People, influenced by disinformation, draw conclusions and vote for those who promote pro-Kremlin messages. Then pro-Russian politicians come to power, start influencing the policies of their countries, and engage in high-level politics. That is why disinformation is extremely dangerous," — the political technologist explained.

The expert stressed that disinformation impacts not only personal, everyday opinions but also directly affects politics and political decisions. Therefore, it is important for everyone, at their own level, to consume information consciously. The book "Workshop of Lies" teaches readers how to identify Kremlin narratives in information messages and how to counteract them.

The author of "Workshop of Lies" also reminded that Russia recently approved an unprecedentedly large official budget for supporting disinformation and propaganda—nearly $2 billion. "This means that the Russians will only intensify their efforts. Therefore, countermeasures must also be strengthened," — Berezenko noted.
