Situation in east and south of Ukraine remains difficult - General Staff

During the day, 56 combat clashes took place. In total, the enemy launched 1 missile and 81 air strikes, including with Shahed-136/131 type attack drones, carried out 37 attacks from multiple rocket launchers on the positions of our troops and settlements.

This is stated in the summary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook on Monday, January 1.

As a result of russian terrorist attacks, there are killed and wounded among the civilian population. Private residential and apartment buildings, other civil and industrial infrastructure were destroyed and damaged. Also, the russian occupiers today attacked Ukraine, using 10 Shahed-136/131 type UAVs. Our defenders destroyed 9 enemy drones.

The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation is without significant changes. No signs of the formation of offensive groups were found. Certain units of the armed forces of Belarus perform tasks in the bordering areas with Ukraine.

In the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions, the enemy conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, carries out shelling of settlements from the territory of the russian federation, increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy launched air strikes in the Mala Vovcha and Orymivka districts of the Kharkiv Region. More than 25 settlements were under artillery and mortar attacks, among them Leonivka, Chernihiv Region; Znob-Trubchevska, Seredyna-Buda, Bachivsk, Sumy Region; Kozacha Lopan, Vovchansk, Budarky, Kharkiv Region.

In the Kupiansk direction, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 attacks by the invaders near Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka, Kharkiv Region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through the defenses of our troops. The enemy also launched air strikes near Kucherivka, Cherneshchyna, Kharkiv Region. About 10 settlements were under artillery and mortar fire, in particular, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove, Kharkiv Region.

In the Lyman direction, the enemy launched air strikes in the areas of Serebrianske Forestry of the Lagans Region and Terny, Spirne, Donetsk Region. More than 10 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar attacks, including Nevske, Bilohorivka, Luhansk Region and Serebrianka, Spirne, Rozdolivka, Donetsk Region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 10 enemy attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishcheevka, Andriivka, Donetsk Region. More than 10 settlements were under artillery and mortar fire, in particular, Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Donetsk Region.

In the Avdiivka direction, the defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka and another 14 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske, Donetsk Region. Here the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical position. About 10 settlements were under artillery and mortar attacks, among them Berdychi, Stepove, Avdiivka, Sievierne, Pervomaiske, Donetsk Region.

In the Mariinka direction, the enemy launched air strikes in the areas of Mariinka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk Region. It fired artillery and mortar at such settlements of the Donetsk Region as Heorhiivka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy launched air strikes in the areas of Staromaiorske and Velyka Novosilka, Donetsk Region. About 10 settlements, in particular, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Urozhaine, Donetsk Region, were under artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy unsuccessfully tried to restore the lost position near Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia Region. Here, the Defense Forces repelled 3 attacks. More than 25 settlements were under artillery and mortar attacks, among them Poltava, Chervone, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Piatykhatky, Zaporizhzhia Region.

In the area of ​ ​ responsibility of the Odesa Operational and Strategic Troops Group, in the Kherson direction, enemy artillery shelling was carried out at Novokairy, Veletenske and Kherson of the Kherson Region.

The enemy does not refuse the intention to knock out our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnieper. Thus, during the day, the enemy carried out 18 unsuccessful assault actions, but Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the enemy.

During the day, the air force of the Defense Forces struck 13 areas of ​ ​ enemy personnel concentration. Also, air defense destroyed 1 Kh-59guided aircraft missile. Missile forces units hit the area of ​ ​ concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, 6 artillery systems, 3 air defense means and a control point of the enemy.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 1, the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, said that mobile firing groups destroyed four Shahed-type kamikaze drones in the Northern Operating Zone.

On the night of December 31, the russian occupiers attacked Ukraine with Shahed-type UAVs from three directions: Cape Chauda (Crimea), the Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk Regions (the aggressor country of the russian federation).

At the same time, as of January 1, the total number of losses of the army of the aggressor state of russia since the beginning of the invasion is approximately 360,010 military.
