Cabinet approves strategy for development of civil aviation until 2030 and creates coordination center for restoration of air traffic
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the strategy for the development of civil aviation of Ukraine until 2030 and created an interdepartmental coordination center to prepare for the restoration of air traffic.
This was announced by Vice Prime Minister for Restoration - Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Kuleba called these strategic decisions of the government for Ukrainian civil aviation.
At the same time, he emphasized that now it is not about opening the airspace.
"We all understand the reality in which the country lives today. Russia continues massive attacks, and the security situation does not allow for the restoration of civil aviation flights. That is why now it is not about opening the airspace. This is about responsible planning for the future. The strategy is part of this planning," Kuleba noted.
According to him, the strategy for the development of Ukraine's civil aviation is part of Ukraine's European integration commitments and the adaptation of Ukraine's transport system to EU standards.
The document complies with the National Transport Strategy of Ukraine and the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Among the priorities are the modernization of airports and air navigation infrastructure, Ukraine's integration into the European aviation space, the development of multimodal connections and the implementation of modern aviation safety standards.
Regarding the coordination center, the minister noted that the global civil aviation system is fundamentally changing under the influence of new security challenges and the center's task is to prepare a new civil aviation security architecture and the operation of airports for the opening of airspace.
According to him, the coordination center will ensure the interaction of state authorities, the security and defense sector, the aviation industry and other participants in the process.
"Safety remains an unconditional component of the resumption of flights. Only it will determine when Ukrainian civil aviation will be able to operate again. Our task today is to prepare all the necessary solutions," Kuleba emphasized.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the government has long been working on the possible resumption of civil aviation in Ukraine, in particular, the draft strategy for the development of the aviation industry until 2030 provides that individual airports in safe regions may operate in stages.
At the same time, experts believe that even the opening of Ukrainian skies will not mean a quick return to full-fledged civil aviation.
Even if the first airports in western Ukraine conditionally receive a "green signal", Ukrainians should not expect dozens of destinations and regular flights.
The first reason is the loss of infrastructure, economic and personnel opportunities, which after four years of downtime will require restoration.
