In Ukraine, preparations are actively underway to get the housing and utilities sector and the energy infrastructure ready for the upcoming heating season. Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Recovery, reported on the status of work in the regions following the latest meeting of the relevant task force.

According to him, as of mid-June, specialists had already prepared more than 2,590 boiler rooms, nearly 3,000 kilometers of heating networks, and more than 1,000 central heating stations. Over UAH 1 billion has already been allocated for restoration and preventive maintenance work at these facilities. In addition, to develop distributed heat generation, the government has allocated an additional UAH 5 billion, which will be used to increase the energy self-sufficiency of communities, as well as to purchase and install modular boiler plants.

During the headquarters meeting, special attention was paid to preparations in Kyiv and the frontline regions, which are regularly subjected to russian attacks. Participants heard reports from the heads of the Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zhytomyr, and Kyiv Regional Military administrations. Officials also analyzed existing reserves of gas and other energy resources, the financial condition of companies in the sector, and debt levels to ensure a stable start to the heating season.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in preparation for the coming winter, Kyiv has already built distributed power generation facilities with a capacity of 60 MW and is continuing construction on additional facilities with a capacity of 100 MW.
