Trump and putin allegedly agreed to transfer control of Donbas to russia at meeting in Anchorage - Reuters
US President Donald Trump and russian dictator vladimir putin allegedly agreed to the aggressor country's control over the Donbas at a meeting in Anchorage in August 2025.
Reuters reported this with reference to its own sources, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
An unnamed source close to the kremlin said that the kremlin believes that the "Anchorage formula" means russian control over the entire Donbas and freezing the front line in other regions.
The Reuters source added that this "formula" was allegedly agreed upon at a meeting between Trump and putin, which took place in Anchorage in August 2025.
The agency notes that Ukraine is under increasing pressure. On the one hand, the US is demanding that Kyiv conclude a peace agreement, on the other hand, russia is demanding territorial concessions in the form of the Donbas before the start of possible negotiations.
Ukraine, in turn, cites the escalation of russian attacks on its energy infrastructure as evidence that putin is not interested in peace.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of January 23, putin and the US delegation met in the Kremlin. The talks lasted about four hours. According to putin's aide Yuri Ushakov, russia will continue to pursue its goals on the battlefield, thus rejecting the possibility of a peaceful settlement.
The day before, the Financial Times wrote, citing its own sources, that Ukraine and the United States wanted to propose the idea of an "energy truce" to russia at the upcoming trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi.
