Trump says he's open to meeting Kim Jong Un during Asia trip
US President Donald Trump said he "would be happy to meet" with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as part of his trip to several Asian countries.
This is reported by CNN.
"I didn't mention it, I didn't say anything, but I would be happy to meet with him if he wants to. I got along great with Kim Jong Un, I liked him, he liked me, if he wants to meet, I'll be in South Korea," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on October 27.
It is noted that Trump will visit South Korea at the end of the week, where he will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' summit. When asked if he was considering extending his trip to facilitate a meeting with Kim Jong Un, Trump said he was open to it.
"I hadn't thought about it, but I think the answer would be yes, I would do it, of course. It's our last stop, so it's pretty easy to do," the US President said.
The journalist then asked what the US could offer North Korea as an incentive for cooperation.
"Well, we have sanctions, that's a pretty big step to start with.... I just have a good relationship with him, I'd really like to meet him," Trump replied.
Kim and Trump met during the latter's first term. During one of the meetings at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea, Kim invited Trump to cross the border into North Korea, making him the first sitting US President to visit the highly isolated autocratic country.
The publication noted that the talks ended without any breakthroughs, and efforts for denuclearization and peace talks subsequently faded.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump began a trip to Asia. He began dancing after arriving in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, where a reception was held for him with the participation of local performers.
And on October 25, US President Donald Trump said that at an upcoming meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping he would discuss the issue of ending the russian-Ukrainian war.
Recall that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made it clear that the DPRK is ready to resume dialogue with the United States if Washington reconsiders its position on the nuclear program.
Meanwhile, a memorial will be built in North Korea dedicated to the servicemen of the DPRK army who were killed in foreign military operations, including in the war against Ukraine.
It became known that the command of the russian occupation army is involving units of North Korean troops to support operations in the Sumy Region, in particular, North Korean UAV operators are correcting russian strikes.
