European Commission explains why ceasefire would not mean changing Ukraine's borders
The European Union supported the proposal to cease hostilities in Ukraine along the current contact line as a first step towards peace talks, stressing that this initiative in no way contradicts the principle of the inviolability of internationally recognized borders. This was reported by European Commission spokeswoman Anitta Hipper, Ukrinform reports.
Commenting on Brussels' agreement to the idea of "freezing" the front line as a condition for a ceasefire, the spokeswoman stressed that even in this case "Our position remains unchanged," she said.
The EU representative further explained that a key element in the issue of any peace talks is that the decision should be made exclusively by Ukraine. She stressed:
"We fully support Ukraine and President Zelenskyy in achieving this goal," Hipper stressed.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to end the war through diplomacy, but not at the cost of its territories.
The British edition of the Financial Times (FT) wrote that US President Donald Trump called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting in Washington on October 17 to accept the conditions of the aggressor country of russia. Otherwise, russian dictator vladimir putin will destroy Ukraine.
Trump himself denied that he allegedly offered him to give Donbas to the aggressor state of russia during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington. According to him, he called for a halt to hostilities where they are, and everything else will depend on negotiations.
