US, russia working on deal that will allow putin to consolidate occupation of 2 Ukrainian regions — Bloomberg
The United States and the aggressor country russia are working on a deal that will allow moscow to consolidate its occupation of several regions of Ukraine.
Bloomberg reported this on August 8, citing its own sources.
The agency's unnamed interlocutors said that American and russian officials are working on an agreement on territories for a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and russian dictator vladimir putin. It could take place as early as next week.
Putin is demanding that Ukraine cede to russia the Luhansk and Donetsk Regions, as well as Crimea, which was annexed in 2014.
Bloomberg writes that this would require Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to order the withdrawal of troops from the territories of the Luhansk and Donetsk Regions, which remain under the control of the Ukrainian army.
The agency's interlocutors added that the United States is simultaneously working to secure the support of Ukraine and its European allies for this agreement.
The authors of the material believe that Zelenskyy risks receiving an unpleasant offer that involves the loss of some territories, while Europe fears that it will only have to observe the observance of the ceasefire while putin rebuilds his troops.
The agency's sources claim that the agreement, in essence, is aimed at freezing the war and creating conditions for a ceasefire and technical negotiations on a final peace settlement.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 7, Bloomberg informed, citing sources, that US President Trump assumes that putin will be open to talks on a peace settlement if a "territorial exchange" is discussed.
The American Fox News channel reported the day before that a bilateral meeting between Trump and putin could take place on Monday, August 11.
We will remind, in January 2025, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would never recognize the occupied territories as part of the russian federation.
