US agrees to sell Ukraine weapons for USD 322 million. What will Ukrainian Armed Forces receive?
The US State Department has officially approved the transfer of two military aid packages to Ukraine worth a total of USD 322 million. These are HAWK Phase III anti-aircraft missile systems with a maintenance kit and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles along with repair equipment.
It was reported by the US Department of Defense.
In particular, Ukraine will receive:
– trucks, spare parts and repair kits for the HAWK system,
– testing equipment, containers, technical documentation,
– support from US government officials and contractors,
– components and repair of MIM-23 HAWK missiles.
To implement this project, 5 US government representatives and 15 contractor employees will be sent to Ukraine.
Separately, the sale of Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and related services for USD 150 million was approved. For this stage, additional specialists from the US are not expected to be involved.
"The proposed sale will improve Ukraine's ability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions. Ukraine has an urgent need to strengthen local sustainment capabilities to maintain high operational rates for United States provided vehicles and weapon systems," the statement said.
The statement said that this sale would contribute to the foreign policy and national security goals of the United States by improving Ukraine's ability to ensure its own defense.
"Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Ukraine," the Pentagon press service wrote.
