Defense Ministry tells how AFU destroyed 2 russian Su-30 aircraft in Black Sea

The Defense Forces destroyed two russian Su-30 aircraft in the Black Sea using AIM-9 Sidewinder infrared-guided air-to-air missiles.

The head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, told this to The War Zone, RBC-Ukraine reports.

Thus, Ukrainian reconnaissance aircraft shot down two Su-30 Flanker multi-role fighters using AIM-9 Sidewinder infrared-guided air-to-air missiles.

This is the first time that fighters have been shot down by unmanned boats, and the first use of AIM-9 from an unmanned boat to destroy the enemy.

"This is a historic moment," Budanov, the head of the Defense Intelligence, told reporters.

The incident occurred in the Black Sea on Friday, May 2, Budanov said, providing new details of the incident.

According to him, the Defense Intelligence used three Magura V7 unmanned boats in the attack, two of which fired at the aircraft.

"The Magura V7 is a variant of the Magura V5 for air defense," Budanov explained, declining to go into details about the difference between them.

The head of the Defense Intelligence also reported that the crew of the first Su-30 survived and was picked up in the Black Sea by a civilian vessel. According to preliminary data, the crew of the second aircraft was killed.

As Ukrainian News Agency reported, on Saturday, May 3, the Defense Intelligence stated that as a result of the attack by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on the russian port of Novorossiysk in the Black Sea, the invaders lost a Su-30 fighter.

In the evening of this day, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that as a result of the actions of the Ukrainian military in the Black Sea, the invaders lost two aircraft.

Recall that in February 2025, in the area of Toretsk of ​​​​the Donetsk Region, the Ukrainian military shot down an invader's Su-25 attack aircraft.
