Trump says Crimea will remain with russia, and Zelenskyy knows it

US President Donald Trump said that Crimea, which russia occupied in 2014, will remain with it, and that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy knows about it.

He said this in an interview with Time.

"This was with them long before Trump came along. Again, this is Obama's war. This is a war that should not have been. I call it the war that should not have been," Trump said.

He added that russian is spoken mainly on the peninsula.

Trump also said that if he had been the head of the United States in 2014, Crimea would have remained with Ukraine.

When asked about his previous statement that the war would end in 24 hours, Trump replied that this was said "figuratively."

"I said it as an exaggeration because I wanted to emphasize, and you know that, of course, it is picked up by fake news. Obviously, people know that when I said it, it was said in jest, but I also said that I would put an end to it," Trump said.

In addition, the US President again stated that the reason for russia's war against Ukraine was Kyiv's desire to join NATO.

On April 23, Axios reported that the so-called "final" peace agreement that the US handed over to Ukraine includes the recognition of Crimea as part of russia and recognition of control over the occupied territories.

However, Kyiv is not discussing with its partners the issue of cession of Crimea or other territories occupied by the aggressor country of russia, since this contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine.

In response, Trump stated that the aggressor country of russia allegedly offered not to seize the entire territory of Ukraine, limiting itself to Crimea and four regions in the east and south. This is supposedly a big concession.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and its European partners, during a meeting in London, made adjustments to the US-proposed plan for resolving the russian-Ukrainian war.
